Argentina intends to join the ranks of countries offering citizenship in exchange for investment. The plans to launch such a program were announced by Economy Minister Luis Caputo during his speech at Argentina Week in Paris. According to him, the launch is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Applicants will be offered a choice of two investment routes. The first involves a non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury of Argentina in the amount of USD 350,000. The second is the purchase of a special seven-year government bond worth USD 800,000. According to sources familiar with the program's details, this security does not provide for interest payments.
The program allows for the inclusion of family members in the application. However, an additional contribution is required for each additional participant. For a spouse or children aged 18 to 25, the surcharge is USD 100,000. For children under 18, it is USD 25,000. As a result, a family of two adults and two minor children would pay USD 500,000 under the treasury contribution route or USD 950,000 under the government bond route. An important detail: only the main applicant purchases the bond, while the remaining family members make contributions to the treasury.
All applications will undergo multi-level screening. The assessment will cover the applicant's identity, the legality and origin of funds, financial history, jurisdictional risks, criminal and reputational records, as well as immigration history. The review will be handled by the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs (APCI) together with Argentine government agencies, while the final decision will rest with the National Migration Directorate. Due diligence and financial control procedures will be aligned with OECD and FATF recommendations.
As for the participation of Russian citizens, there is currently no official information on this matter.
