Nevis is nestled in the Caribbean Sea, forming one half of the twin-island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Located in the Leeward Islands segment of the Lesser Antilles chain, Nevis lies southeast of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and to the west of Antigua and Barbuda. It is positioned roughly 220 miles southeast of Puerto Rico and about 50 miles west of Antigua.
As the smaller of the two islands in the federation, Nevis spans approximately 36 square miles. The island is nearly circular in shape, with its most striking feature being Nevis Peak, a dormant volcano standing at 3,232 feet. This peak is enveloped in lush tropical rainforest, home to a diverse array of flora and fauna.
