Residence permit in Brazil

Flag Icon

Brazil is not only the largest country in Latin America but also a dynamic economic giant, offering foreign investors and expats a unique combination of natural wealth, cultural diversity, and growing business opportunities. The country attracts attention with its vast domestic market, developing infrastructure, and active integration into the global economy, making it one of the most promising destinations for obtaining residency in the region. The investment residency program offers several flexible paths: real estate acquisition, investment in research projects, startup funding, or business creation in priority economic sectors. Each of these options opens the way to official resident status with the right to live, work, and do business in the country.

Beyond economic advantages, Brazil offers a high quality of life in major cities with developed infrastructure, modern medical clinics, and international schools. A residence permit grants the right to travel freely within the country and access all social services, including education and healthcare, while family members can be included in the same application. Initially, the residence permit is issued for a limited period, then renewed, and after several years of legal stay, the path opens to permanent residency and, subsequently, Brazilian citizenship, a passport which provides visa-free access to many countries worldwide.

Brazil is becoming a reliable and promising platform for those seeking a second residence, asset protection, and freedom of movement in one of the world's most dynamic regions.

Tax rates

Tax status directly affects the scope of tax obligations. Residents are subject to a progressive tax scale, while non-residents are subject to a flat rate.

For tax residents (progressive scale, 2026):

  • up to R$ 2,259 per month — 0%
  • from R$ 2,259 to R$ 3,386 — 7.5%
  • from R$ 3,386 to R$ 4,504 — 15%
  • from R$ 4,504 to R$ 5,623 — 22.5%
  • above R$ 5,623 — 27.5%

Residents are required to declare and pay tax on their worldwide income, regardless of the country of origin.

For non-residents, a single flat rate of 25% applies to all income earned in Brazil. Income from foreign sources is not subject to taxation.
