An official ceremony of signing an agreement between Russia and the Sultanate of Oman, which simplifies mutual travel of citizens, has been held in Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Omani leader Haisam bin Tarek Al Said exchanged documents during talks in the Kremlin.

Terms of visa-free regime

According to the agreement, citizens of both countries will be able to enter the territory of the partner state without a visa for up to 30 days per visit. However, the total time of stay during the year should not exceed 90 days. The new rules do not apply to those who plan to work, study or live in the country permanently - a visa is still required for such purposes.

When will the agreement come into effect?

The document will enter into force 30 days after the domestic procedures of both parties are finalized. This means that the parties will officially notify each other that they are ready to complete the necessary legal formalities.

What has changed for Russians?

Previously, Russian citizens could get a free 14-day visa at the border of Oman, which could not be extended or changed. Now the period of short-term stay has been more than doubled, making it easier for tourist and business travel.

Why is this important?

The agreement strengthens bilateral relations and promotes tourism as well as business contacts. Oman becomes another Middle Eastern country opening its borders to Russians on favorable terms.
