The Government of Vanuatu has announced important changes to the passport application process. From May 1, 2025, all Vanuatu passport applicants will be required to undergo biometric data collection. This innovation is related to the modernization of the e-passport system to meet ICAO international standards.

What will change?

As of May 1, 2025, manual passport applications will no longer be accepted. All applicants must appear in person at one of the biometric data collection centers located at the Vanuatu Consulates in Hong Kong, Dubai and New Caledonia. The service is also available at the Vanuatu Immigration Service office in Port Vila.

Advice for applicants

To avoid having to submit biometric data, it is recommended that passport applications be submitted before mid-April 2025. This is particularly relevant for those who plan to apply urgently.

What is important to know?

  • Biometric data will be collected at Vanuatu consulates in Hong Kong, Dubai and New Caledonia as well as Port Vila (Expansion of consulates may be possible)
  • Current applications submitted before May 1, 2025 will not be affected by the changes.
